Use Mnem with VS Code

Copilot Chat that remembers: Mnem's tools plug into VS Code's MCP support for agent mode.

What you get

  • Memory tools in Copilot Chat's agent mode, across all workspaces
  • One memory shared with your other editors and assistants
  • Optional auto-capture — opt-in, per app

Connect

One-click setup from the Connections panel.

  1. Open Connections

Click the Mnem menu-bar icon and open the Connections panel.

  2. Connect VS Code

Click Connect. Mnem adds itself to your user-level MCP configuration so it works in every workspace.

  3. Enable MCP if needed

On some setups you must enable MCP support in VS Code settings (search for “MCP” and ensure it's turned on), then reload the window.

  4. Verify

Open Copilot Chat in agent mode and check the tools picker for mnem.

Troubleshooting

MCP tools are used by agent mode, not plain ask mode — switch modes if tools seem missing. You'll need a recent VS Code with Copilot Chat; corporate policy can also disable MCP, which shows up as an empty tools list.
